Common questions
Is Australia's investor visa really closed?
Yes, the Business Innovation and Investment visa (188) closed to new applicants in July 2024. Its replacement, the National Innovation Visa, isn't an investment visa, it's invitation-only, for exceptional achievement, with no dollar threshold.
Do I have to live in New Zealand to keep my Active Investor Plus visa?
Yes, there's a minimum time requirement during the investment period, currently as little as 21 days over 3 years for the Growth category, though this has changed before and can change again.
What counts as "an existing business" for the Business Investor Work Visa?
It must have been operating for at least 5 years already, this isn't a visa for buying a shell company or starting fresh, that's what the Entrepreneur visa is for.
If Australia's door is closed, is there any other way in through business?
Often, yes, through the skilled migration program if your occupation qualifies, or an employer-sponsored route if you're also prepared to work for a sponsoring business. It's a different path than investing directly, and we can talk through whether it fits.
